Equine Bodywork Services

Bodywork isn’t simply a “spa day” for your horse, it is proactive prehabilitation that restores optimal movement patterns, reduces compensatory stress, and promotes long-term joint integrity so your horse stays comfortable, supple, and sound for years, while you experience a clearer, more connected ride.

The more you do it, the more it works. Bodywork is like going to the gym - you might go once and think “Man, that felt good - I should do this more often!” but if you don’t actually follow through, you will never get stronger.

The more consistently (consistent - not often!) your horse receives bodywork, the better their body can respond to the work.

Standard Services

Full Body Massage………… $125

Equine Full Body Massage is where I recommend most horse owners start. It allows for a comprehensive hands-on assessment of your horse where I can analyze where they may have dysfunction, discomfort, or restrictions and begin to address those imbalances through manual work on the soft tissue. I utilize a variety of techniques based on the needs of the horse including effleurage (gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (percussive tapping), friction (deep circular movements), myofacial release (slow work focused on fascia), stretching, and more!

Full Body PEMF………… $105

Equine Full Body PEMF is a good fit for clients who have already established care with Barrio or who are wanting to specifically target inflammation (ex: arthritis, general soreness, rehabbing injury, etc.). PEMF is a holistic modality that stimulates individual cells within the horse to encourage the body to work more efficiently to flush toxins (including inflammation) and restore balance.

Target PEMF………… $60

Target PEMF is available for clients who are working on inflammation reduction in one key area (ex: tendon injury, muscle tears, navicular/laminitis, etc.).

Cold Laser………… $35

Cold laser is most often scheduled as an add-on service for targeted pain relief in a key area based on what is found during the bodywork session. Ideal for extreme muscle soreness or reactivity (ex: poor saddle fit, poll trauma) or injury healing (ex: habronemas, wounds, tendon injury), cold laser aids in stimulating cells to repair damaged tissue.

Kinesiology Taping………… $10-40

Kinesiology taping can be scheduled as a singular service or an add-on. Kinesiology tape has a multitude of application types but can be used for relaxation, stimulation, proprioception, and support of both muscles and joints. I like to picture it like the magic fairy wand of equine bodywork - it continues to support the work I’ve done even long after I’ve left the barn. Price varies depending on how much tape is used. Most applications are between $15-$20.

  • Bodywork is proactive prehabilitation that restores optimal movement patterns, reduces compensatory stress, and promotes long-term joint integrity so your horse stays comfortable, supple, and sound for years, while you experience a clearer, more connected ride.

  • Though horse and situation dependent - most horses benefit from being on a 4-8 week schedule. Bodywork is like working out, the more you do it, the better results you get.

  • In general, bodywork is safe for most horses. We do not massage during active illness (fever, colic, dehydration, hives, etc.) or in some cases of cancer or pregnancy.

We do not administer PEMF within 48 hours of receiving injections in an abundance of caution to not increase absorption rates.

  • Upon arrival, we will complete a baseline assessment of your horse. This will include a palpatory exam to isolate and identify specific concerns and may also include asking to see your horse move at the walk/trot/lope based on your concerns and what we may want to take a closer look at.

The session itself will be tailored to your horse, spending extra time in any areas that need special attention.

Upon completion of the session, we will discuss next steps and we will provide recommendations for an ongoing plan for your horse.

Post-session, you will receive an emailed session summary outlining the areas of concern, levels of reactivity, and a summary of the recommendations we suggest.

  • Bodywork is an unregulated industry in Arizona. Any lay person can say “I’m an equine massage therapist!”. I encourage owners to ask questions about certifications, trainings, and ongoing education. My credentials are all openly available on the “Meet the Team” page.

  • Horses with sudden mood changes, acting “mareish”, or not performing as they usually do are often signs of discomfort in the body presenting as “misbehavior”.
