equine massage in Tucson, Arizona

Hi, I’m Liz Butler!

Owner and founder of Barrio Performance Therapy, I’m a Tucson native who never outgrew the 8-year-old-horse-loving phase.

I always longed for a career with horses but believed that I needed to get a “real job”. After nearly 10 years in corporate America, I discovered equine bodywork and I was hooked before I ever even started. It was exactly what I wanted to spend my life doing but had never been able to fully conceptualize.

I remain a lifelong student of the horse and enjoy learning as much as I can about holistic modalities to bring the most knowledge possible to my practice.

I believe that through bodywork, we can create soft, supple, and most importantly comfortable horses. When horses feel their best, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Aimee McGuire

Aimee is a lifelong horse girl with a natural talent for equine bodywork. Liz has had the pleasure of working on her horses (shoutout to Fendi, Tango, and Freckles!) for the last several years while Aimee pursued her Equine Science degree at the University of Arizona and competed in barrel racing in the college rodeo circuit.

Liz had been nudging (okay, maybe relentlessly encouraging ) Aimee to turn her passion for horses into a career in equine bodywork and finally, Liz’s persistence paid off! Aimee graduated from the U of A in May 2025 and immediately began her equine massage therapy certification through Midwest Natural Healing for Animals and her PEMF certifications through the Association of PEMF Professionals while apprenticing with Liz.

Aimee is now contracted with Barrio to deliver the same high-quality sessions you and your horses know and love, but with a fresh set of hands. She brings new techniques, a vibrant mindset, and a keen eye to the team - qualities Barrio is thrilled to share with you all.

Casey Ross

Casey brings over 25 years of horse experience, including university studies in equine science and a unique background in exotic animal training, psychology, and elder care. She lives and breathes compassion and has a strong commitment to doing the right thing and taking care of those around her, especially our 4 legged friends.

Her decades of horse experience give her a strong understanding of equine body language, communication, and movement patterns making her naturally skilled at bodywork.

When she isn’t teaching riding lessons, hanging out with her toddler son, Levi, or shadowing Liz, she is completing the final stages of her equine bodywork certification program through Holistic Animal Services. This in-depth program covers a wide range of equine massage techniques along with instruction in saddle fit, biomechanics, and supportive therapies like cupping and laser therapy.

Beginning in August, you’ll see Casey at many sessions as she makes the rounds to meet our clients and get to know your horses.

She can’t wait to meet you!
